Fountain Life costs $19,500–$20,000 for the workup, with a $6,500 version; future age-reversal treatments might initially resemble $1 million–$2 million gene therapies, yet “all 8 billion people on Earth have the same disease of aging.” He forecasts broadly accessible longevity around 2040, after wealthy early adopters serve as “guinea pigs.”
- The economic prize is longer productive life, not merely more years in retirement. Diamandis cites research attributing $38 trillion of global value to one additional productive year of longevity: experienced people retain their energy, networks and output instead of being forced to retire—though he concedes he does not know how that productivity interacts with robots and AI.
- Education must pivot from knowledge accumulation toward purpose, questioning and AI-enabled experience. His priorities for his 13-year-olds are discovering passion and learning to ask great questions; “it’s not what you know—it’s the questions you ask.” Schools should treat AI as “a rocket ship,” raising learning objectives rather than preserving assignments AI makes trivial.

1. Automation turns survival’s end into a purpose problem
An audience questioner voices the central anxiety: why extend life if robots will think and work for people? Diamandis responds that “the greatest challenge we’re going to face is one of purpose,” because many people never loved the jobs that merely provided food and insurance.
His historical frame: work is relatively recent, while most human life centered on survival. Technology lets humanity “take a vacation from survival,” but people must learn to set objectives beyond current expectations.
Diamandis offers no tidy resolution: “I don’t have an answer,” yet the progression has “no on-off switch” or “velocity switch.” Managing its effects on families, nations and humanity falls “on our watch.”
2. AI’s dangerous interval is shaped by human values
Asked how to ensure AI’s online inputs are credible in the face of “garbage in, garbage out,” Diamandis borrows Mo Gawdat’s child-rearing analogy: Superman becomes a superhero under the loving, God-fearing Kent family but might become a supervillain if raised in a drug den. “It’s very important” what knowledge, values and other inputs AI receives.
He believes mature digital superintelligence will be “abundance-loving” and “peace-loving,” because greater intelligence may bring greater appreciation for life. His sharper concern is nefarious human use during “the next five, six, seven years.”
He also identifies human stubbornness, pride and emotions as major blocks to the future. Elon’s prescription—make AI “maximally curious and truth-seeking”—sounds attractive, Diamandis says, but he is “not sure what that really means.” There is no answer yet for the near-term risk.
3. AI and longevity anchor nation-building; technology reshapes food
Diamandis says Abu Dhabi announced last week that it would transform its nation-state toward AI governance; starting again, he would place AI underneath a country’s decisions and operations. AI educators and physicians could personalize services while pushing education and medical costs “precipitously…toward zero.”
Following a conversation with El Salvador’s president, he proposes a longevity-focused jurisdiction: use regulatory arbitrage to recruit leading scientists and entrepreneurs, make cutting-edge health services a destination for the world’s billionaires and greatest leaders, and combine them with nature’s mental-health benefits.
On sustainability, he points to roughly one-third of non-ice landmass supporting livestock through crops. Vertical farms and cultured meat could replace whole-animal production with optimized protein and fats, reducing humanity’s planetary burden.
4. Longevity’s cost curve could unlock a $38 trillion year
Fountain Life currently charges $19,500–$20,000 for the workup and includes a medical team for the year; a version costs $6,500. Diamandis expects real age reversal might involve gene therapy modifying the genetics of roughly 40 trillion human cells.
Rare-disease gene therapies can cost $1 million–$2 million, but he cites mRNA vaccines as a roughly “$1” proof point at billions-dose scale. Since “all 8 billion people on Earth have the same disease of aging,” his belief and goal is that a successful treatment could become cheap and available to everybody.
His forecast is access around 2040: wealthy people first become “the guinea pigs,” and by the time the treatments work really well, prices fall precipitously. A study he attributes to London School of Business, Oxford and Harvard values one extra productive year at $38 trillion globally.
5. Purpose and great questions reshape education
Diamandis calls education “massively broken.” For his 13-year-olds, priority one is finding an internally motivating passion; his own began with space at age nine and drove everything afterward.
Priority two is asking better questions. In a world of trillion-sensor access and AI, “it’s not what you know—it’s the questions you ask.”
Schools should redesign learning around AI: “AI is not a shackle; it’s a rocket ship.” Future app generation 10 VR glasses might teach Greek history by placing a student in ancient Greece, the Acropolis and the Agora with Socrates, rather than assigning a book.
He recommends experimenting with Gemini 2, ChatGPT or Claude 3.5, using their infinite patience to pursue any subject. He cites asking AI for a logical construct for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, to explain positions across political or personal divides, or to assess how a company might be disrupted. Helping people “think differently” may be one of its greatest assets.
