Thread Guy

Yo, yo, yo. How is it?

Doomer

Oh, hello, dude.

Thread Guy

Solana Doomer, congratulations, brother.

Doomer

Yes, glad to be here. How are you doing? How is it going?

### buying the 2013 Bitcoin top

Thread Guy

It’s okay, dude. Nice to meet you. Thank you for joining us. Your avatar is hilarious. Your hyper-dash is just tin. Can you tell us briefly about your trading experience? It seems like the account you have is about a year old, but how long have you been doing this?

Doomer

Of course. I’ve been in the cryptosphere for a very long time. I got into Bitcoin sometime in 2013, actually at the very peak, somewhere around $1,100 or $1,200. I was a student, and some guy asked, “Hey, dude, have you heard of this thing, Bitcoin?” I answered, “No.” He suggested I take a look, and I’ve always had a tendency, even when I was younger, to like poker, competitive video games, and all that stuff. I was always interested in markets, even though I didn’t have any experience.

I started buying a little bit. I was a poor student, and I bought at the peak. Then I held it as it fell and saw it drop to somewhere around $180. I continued to trade cycles and stuff. In 2017, I also traded. I turned about 0.1 BTC into 25 BTC on OKX and then lost everything literally 2 days later.

### the forgotten $ETH ICO bag

There were many stories like that. One of the craziest is that I actually bought ETH during the ICO but didn’t realize it, or probably forgot about it, until 2022. I saw a guy’s tweet about it on Twitter and thought, “Damn, I think I bought that.” I checked my history on Coinbase, and indeed, I had. I spent $60 and got 200 ETH.

The problem was that you needed this wallet file, and you also needed a password that you had set, for example, through the Ethereum Foundation in a letter you sent them. So I dug up my old computer, which was about 10 years old at the time. I still have this laptop. It barely worked, and I didn’t even know if it was charging. I plugged it in, it charged, and it turned on.

I started looking for files on my computer. Eventually, I typed in “wallet,” and this little file appeared. There it was. Then I had to go through another technical procedure to try to withdraw the coins. I got to the point where I had to enter the password I had created, but I had no idea what it was. I tried several combinations that I had used before, but none of them worked.

At that point, I was in despair. I knew the money was there, but I didn’t know how to get it. I reached out to a guy I found—I don’t remember his name, but he does brute-force wallet recovery. I sent him all my information and a list of passwords that I thought might work. He said, “Okay, I’ll get to work.” Five minutes later, he wrote to me, “Hey, it’s unlocked. I hacked it.”

He took about 25% of the amount or something like that. I was perfectly fine with it because I never would have been able to open it myself. I had 150 ETH arrive in my wallet. Then I had to figure out what to do with it. I withdrew some, paid taxes, and then invested it all, essentially, in Solana NFTs, where I lost almost all my money immediately.

### 30K of T-bills to $25M

One of the projects was Dual Bots. My other anonymous friends who know me from some small Discord and Telegram channels remember my story with Dual Bots, where I again lost almost all my money. It was something like an NFT casino. My saving grace was that I put about $30,000 in Treasury bills because I thought, “Okay, I’ll put $30,000 in bills. Maybe it’ll be a down payment on a house or something for me and my then-fiancée.”

Then November 2023 came, and a fresh bull market began. I said, “You know, honey, I think I’ll take this money and put it in crypto.” She said, “Are you serious? You’ve been doing this for so long and haven’t earned anything.” I said, “Let’s do this.”

I put the money in, grew my capital quickly, and eventually moved fully into GOAT. I made almost $3 million on GOAT at the end of 2024. I transferred it to AI16Z and made about $8 million on TRUMP. But then he lost almost all his money on Trump, probably about seven million over the next two months, buying all sorts of junk after the market peaked.

Then came the summer of 2025—that’s all those ETH deals you saw. Or 2024, sorry, 2025. Last summer, I closed those perpetual ETH deals. I finished the year with a profit of about $8 million. Then I paid taxes and took a lot of it out.

2026 began, still a bear market. I lost a couple hundred thousand dollars just trying to limit my losses. Then in the spring, sometime in April or May, I made one of the big deals with Zach. Somewhere around a couple of million. That had already brightened my year. I was up $2 million, and then summer came. I played Zach long and had those few five million deals.

Publicly, on Hyperliquid, I have about $17 million in profit this year, but I also have another $8 million to $9 million in brokerage accounts from short-term trading. So I’m close to $25 million for the year. I mainly trade crypto, but I’ve also traded AI assets. That’s my story in a nutshell.

I don’t have any specialized education in trading or finance. I have a degree in atmospheric sciences. I was studying meteorology. I know, it’s crazy. I was just interested in crypto and finance, so I got involved.

It was a goddamn roller coaster. There are about 5 parallel universes where this is my profit-and-loss chart, starting with gold, by the way. About 4—maybe 4 out of 10. This is me.

### up $25M with a day job

Thread Guy

What an awesome story. Do you have a job? Are you doing this full-time?

Doomer

I have a job. Actually, I work for Awaken.tax. This is going to sound crazy, too, but I work for Awaken.tax.

Thread Guy

Do you work for a tax service? You go there, work there, and use it? Do you really work there? Are you an ambassador, or are you an employee?

Doomer

No, I’m an employee.

Thread Guy

Seriously? Is it hard for you when you made $25 million in the last year?

Doomer

That isn’t really true. It’s related to crypto. I get the opportunity to work with a lot of people who are in crypto. I’ve worked with some big names in the field over the last year, so I have the opportunity to stay in this topic and this environment.

A lot of people talk about how to retire and stay busy. I took some time off and quickly realized that you need to do something. For me personally, this job is perfect because the busiest time is around winter and early spring, when it’s just terrible outside and you can’t do anything.

I can sit in my basement, push buttons, look at charts, and stay in crypto at the same time. I think Awaken is a great product. I think it has huge growth potential, so I have the opportunity to potentially capture some of that growth.

Thread Guy

I kept wondering why you kept mentioning that you pay taxes on all those big winnings. But no, that’s cool.

Doomer

Oh, yes. Carefully.

### momentum is the whole strategy

Thread Guy

Okay, could you explain to me how? I guess, starting with this: How would you describe your trading style? You have some monster wins, but you also have a very large number of wins. It doesn’t seem like one huge deal.

Doomer

I’ve summed up my trading style as impulse trading, to be honest. This is the easiest way to make money. There seems to be this guy named Trader Mercurial or something like that. I think I know him. He’s a good trader and does about the same thing.

He uses trend-following indicators, which is roughly what I do. When the market is bullish, you buy the dips, get in with a lot of volume, hold the position, and make sure you have enough margin so you don’t get liquidated. Then you just sit and wait, which is exactly what I usually do.

I only do this in longs, although you can do it in shorts, too. It’s just psychologically much harder for me to keep my shorts on.

Thread Guy

This is so cruel. In a bear market.

Doomer

I think that’s the bottom line. It worked well, and I think it works well in other markets, like AI. Just buy and hold SanDisk or Micron. A year or 6 months ago, you could just sit in them, they kept growing, and there was no reason to sell. So I just hold on.

Thread Guy

How did your trading style or position size change as you went from 5 figures to 6, 7, and 8? Did you scale your position sizes along with that? How do you approach it?

Doomer

Mostly, yes. I just scaled along with it. Again, I’m probably different from a lot of professionals. For example, someone like Flood, or someone who is very focused on quanta, will tell you, “Here is your risk, here is your limit,” and so on.

I’m just like Rhino Jr. As you say, Rhino comes out tomorrow, right? I sympathize with Rhino. When my “balls tingle,” I’m in. The position size is what I want, the stop is what I want, and the exit is when I feel it’s time—when the profit and loss are where I want them to be.

I don’t have any strict limits. I’ve stared at charts long enough that I can pick up momentum and hold positions during extreme volatility, which most people can’t, and it makes a profit.

As for increasing position size, it’s actually really difficult. When you start getting a lot of wins, you try to increase the volume, and then you get a huge loss. You think, “Damn, why did I do that?” But in the end, there’s only one way to really move up: You have to increase the size of your positions.

It’s a mental fear that you overcome over time, after losing a lot and winning back a few times.

Thread Guy

So you work completely independently?

Doomer

Yes, completely independently.

### trading 100% from his phone

Thread Guy

Yes, me too. This is probably a crazy fact: I also trade 100% from my phone. I don't trade on the computer, only on the phone. That's how I trade, mainly because I have a wife, a family, an energetic dog, and other relatives with whom I spend a lot of time, so I can't sit at the computer and try to trade. If I'm at the computer, I'm working, so I trade on the phone.

What do you trade?

Doomer

I've been trading on the native Hyperliquid interface for the last—I don't know—95% of the time. It's a bit inconvenient on mobile, but that's okay. What else do you need? The price is there. I see the price I need, I get in, close the phone, and go play golf or something. I don't know.

Recently, I contacted the HyperDex team because they launched this copy-trading feature. They helped me out, and they have a couple of cool features, like built-in market-order types. So I started trading through their interface. And there is the developer code. So I pay a small commission, but they have several types of orders that I like. I found their interface to be quite similar to Hyperliquid's. I think that's how I found you—through the guys at HyperDex. I adore this team. In my opinion, they are simply wonderful.

Thread Guy

No, yeah, that's cool. Their analytics are simply great. At Awaken, we actually use some of their P&L tools to track people's profits and losses for taxes and things like that. So they have a great product.

### holding through the dips

Why do you think you were able to succeed in a sea of losing traders using this style? Why were you, of all people, able to do so well during this period? Is it that your intuition works better than other people's?

Doomer

I think there are 2 reasons. First of all, I've been looking at charts since 2013. I've made six-figure sums several times and lost everything just as many times. So, at least for myself, I realized that at this point I have a certain advantage in identifying impulse trades, especially in bull markets.

This is experience, but I also have the ability to calmly wait out crazy fluctuations, and the mental aspect doesn't bother me at all. For example, with that trade, I was up $3 million, and then the price dropped 10–12%, so I lost $1.5 million in unrealized profit. But I just said, “Okay, I'm still in the trade.” I continued to hold.

That mentality allows me to withstand wild positions and swings that would make most people panic or say, “Oh my God, the price went up 100%. I'm selling.” Meanwhile, the price increases by 1,000%, somehow. I think GOAT is a very revealing trade in this regard.

I entered at a market capitalization of $6 million and held it up to $750 million, even despite the crazy dump from $400 million to $100 million or whatever it was. It felt somehow wrong, or something. Yes, yes, yes. And then, who was it? Mr. Frog or someone told him to tweet about GOAT, or I would fucking block him. Yeah, I would turn it off or throw you in—throw the toaster in the water or something.

Because of all this, this type of thinking allows me to hold these trades for a very long time. And yes, don't get me wrong, this could go sideways. This works both ways. When the market is going down, you can't just hold on to those trades, especially at the end of a bull market, because you're going to get wiped out with those 50% or 60% losses.

I've learned enough to try to protect myself from losses when I feel the market is overheated or we're nearing the end.

Thread Guy

Your journey began with on-chain trading, right? Like with GOAT. Are you still trading on-chain, or are you just a “perp chad”?

Doomer

I still do some on-chain trading, but much less often. Let me think. I think the last thing I did was Z Cat. Congratulations to my friend who told me about Z Cat at a capitalization of around $300,000, but I didn't listen to him. Then, you know, it took off. He did—I don't know—500x or something, something crazy.

But that was the last time. I mostly trade what I would call on-chain mid-caps, from $10 million to $20 million, $30 million, and above. I don't trade anything below that. In my opinion, those are just games of chance, with even worse odds than at a casino.

But it's still a place where people can make crazy money from practically nothing. And I think it's a good place, to some extent, if you have a small portfolio. I'm not saying you have to buy everything in a row, but if you gain experience in identifying coins that are going to break out and all that, you can find an advantage, especially with a market capitalization of $5 million or more, finding 5x to 10x gains and making money that way.

So I'm still there, but overall I'm more of a " plumber" now, if I may say so.

### the $7M drawdown after $TRUMP

Thread Guy

What was your biggest drawdown, even if it's in P&L? Was it definitely in one position, or was it just a combination of things?

Doomer

My biggest drawdown definitely happened after the Trump trade. The Trump story was crazy, too. I was just lying in bed. It was around 8 in the evening, and I was going to go to bed. Then I saw a tweet about the Trump coin, and people were writing about it. I was like, “What the hell is this?”

So I checked it. At that time, it was somewhere around $500 million, and it was somewhere around $250 million when I checked. I didn't know if it was real or not. I was going to buy in, invest in something. I had $1.5 million in Fartcoin or some shit like that, something crazy. So I threw in about $500,000.

Then I thought, what if this guy made everything up? The risk was very high at that time. Then it instantly dropped 50%, to $100 million, and I thought, “Okay, I'm screwed.” So I sold it because I thought it would probably drop to zero because it was fake.

Then he wrote on Twitter and confirmed it. So I went all in at a $500 million market cap. In short, I waited for it to grow to 8 million and sold it. For the next few months, the market was just terrible.

I remember buying into something called "Prison chair", or some such crap. "Prison Chair" one, two and three. I lost somewhere in the six-figure range, average six figures. I did this about 10 times. I think I lost about $7 million, $6 million or $7 million, in the 2 months after just making $8 million.

That was definitely my biggest downfall. It was very painful. It threw me off track a bit, to be honest. I felt like a complete idiot for 2 months after burning so much money.

As for the drawdown on a specific position, I'm not sure. I was down about $1 million on Zcash a week ago—or maybe 2 weeks ago. It was just an unrealized loss, but then I got it back. So, yeah, probably somewhere a little over $1 million, maybe $1.5 million, on a separate trade or something like that. Same story with that "prison chair". I remember every moment of that vividly.

### when to take money off the table

Thread Guy

What about you? What do you do? How do you preserve wealth after you earn it? At what level of wealth do you consider preservation—7 figures, 8 figures? Your story begins with selling $30,000 in Treasury bills to start trading. At what level of wealth do you start thinking, “How do I keep this and take some of it out of the market?”

Doomer

I think it depends on where you are in life, honestly. If you're young, like you are or even younger, I don't think you necessarily need to worry too much about preserving wealth until you're somewhere in the mid- sixties or higher, right? You're young, you have so many opportunities ahead of you, and I think you should take a lot of risks.

That was a big part of my life. My parents weren't rich, but they gave me everything I needed, and I knew that if I had financial problems, they would at least help me. That allowed me to do whatever I wanted in the market, to be a little silly, to be honest. So I would say when you're young, somewhere around the middle six characters.

But if you're older, you know, let's say you're more like plumbers, um, you know, you're in your 30s, you're older. If you're making low to mid-six figures, in my opinion, you need to get it out of the market. If you're making life-changing money, you need to make life changes. You need to pay off your debts. You need to start thinking about index funds and all of these things.

If you start making more than the average six figures, you definitely need to take out money for taxes and take it seriously, because there are a lot of people who run out of money and lose it. That's the nature of this industry and these markets. You should protect your money and secure it when you can.

### the $PUMP and $ZEC bullcase

Thread Guy

That's a good look. Okay, so what is your view on the market now? You are long a pile of PUMP, a pile of Zcash, and a slightly smaller but still significant amount of Hyperliquid, which is your only open loss-making perpetual contract.

Doomer

Yeah, I'll just go through each trade and then do a kind of macro review. In terms of PUMP, I'm not Ansem Jr. here. PUMP just makes money, right? We talked about this before. PUMP was on a kind of downward trend, and then STONK, PONZ, and everything else gradually faded into the background. They still exist. They still make money, but they're not PUMP.

PUMP has so much money and so much reach that they have built, in my opinion, one of the best casinos in the world. They just make money. If Elon is watching this, right? If the team were at least a little more reliable—I don't want to offend them—like Jeff and Hyperliquid, PUMP would probably be 5 times more expensive than it is now.

But there's a little bit of doubt and misunderstanding about the PUMP team and what they're doing, at least for me, for it to really do 10x from here. But you just can't deny the revenue, and it should continue to grow.

I have a perpetual contract. I also have about 8 million in spot PUMP, or something. I expect higher prices. If it doesn't reach an all-time high, then I just don't know what's wrong with this coin.

The market makers on PUMP are truly crazy. They just "saw" it, as far as I know. Like 23 and a half hours a day, and then, in the last 30 minutes, they pump it up 10%. Then it rolls back down until it finally breaks out by 30%. I don't know what the market makers are doing with this coin, but I hope it works.

Zach, um, I mean, you know Zach, right? I saw your deals. You guys can make deals on Zach. Thanks, dude.

There's not much to say here, except that it has a good narrative. It's like a cheaper version of BTC. I think it's quite possible that one of the Winklevoss twins, or someone like that, could dump BTC and buy Zcash, and they could drive the market up because it's so small, honestly.

It's like a repeat of BTC. I don't think it will reach BTC's market capitalization, but somewhere between $5,000 and $10,000 seems quite realistic in the next year or 2. Again, it's momentum. Momentum and narrative are all you need in crypto, honestly, except for some random new coins. So I think it's a solid asset to hold.

I'm holding it now, and I'm not sure if it will retest its highs. But I liked the entry from the bounce. Here's some technical analysis: the 4-hour EMA, the 200 EMA, and the moving averages. The first time it was touched was at level 450 or something like that. If you look at past rallies, it almost always bounced back, at least on first contact.

Then there's Hyperliquid. It's just HYPE, you know; it's Jeff's team. It's a good coin, the coin grows—all that stuff. So these are my 3 positions, and I'm not going to sell them just yet.

Thread Guy

How do you have so much money in the market right now and speak so calmly about these positions? You're surprisingly calm. I would call you calm.

Doomer

I think this is something you get used to. P&Ls are always jumping around, and that's life. But with Bitcoin breaking $83,000, I think we've set a higher high.

Congratulations to Trader Mayne. He's been promoting this thesis for a long time, right? A weekly close above $83,000—a higher high. I see no reason why the market wouldn't continue its bullish trend, unless there's some kind of massive fake collapse to $60,000, which is unlikely.

In a bull market, you need to hold coins, so I continue to hold my positions. Although the macro market is a bit strange right now.

Thread Guy

Yes, that's true. That's right. I'm by no means an expert in macroeconomics. Rates just kept rising, but so did everything else. Stocks are hitting new highs. SPY reached a new all-time high today, and QQQ reached a new all-time high in the last few days.

It's kind of there, but I don't know enough about bonds and all that to make any solid argument. I think a lot of people don't either, so you just ignore it, right? You go with the flow. That's about where I stand right now.

Did Chad convince you to start a rare-book collection? Do you like reading at all?

Doomer

No. Well, actually, I often tell my real-life friends and my wife that I need to read more. I need to stop staring at my phone, at charts and Twitter, and read some books. I've already made enough money, so I should just stop doing it.

But this is one thing about trading: it's the best game in the world, right? It's the hardest game in the world. I'm here, and I can never leave this game. I'll try, but I don't think I can.

Thread Guy

Who is the best trader of all time to you? Maybe in the crypto community or on Twitter—someone you think is really cool, someone you take seriously when they post something?

Doomer

Vlad is definitely a good trader. I don't really like his attitude a lot of the time. He's very arrogant. I'm not like that. Many anonymous people who know me know that I give people money just because I can, and I think that everything in life comes back. But Vlad is a good trader. I think he's very good.

I'm trying to think of someone else who writes publicly. Kobe is just a legend, right? You invited Kobe. Whatever he says, I always listen.

Thread Guy

Flood's comment was spot on.

Doomer

I have nothing against Flood, but I think he should change his attitude a little.

Thread Guy

Why is that? Show him your P&L. The last thing I want to know is why you tweet, add links to your account, and go on streams. What exactly attracts you to social media activity? Are you interested in gaining a large audience on social media?

Doomer

I don't know if I'm necessarily very interested in that. But some people said I should make a little statement about myself, just because my P&L results are so crazy. People might be interested in hearing my story and all that.

I don't foresee myself trying to build a huge audience because I just don't want to spend the time maintaining it. That's what you do, right? It takes a lot of time, and I simply don't have it. I have a family, I have a job, and I like to play golf often. I don't have time to respond to people on social media all day.

This is just an explanation, and if it opens some doors for investment, I'll be happy. Flood, maybe write to me, dude. Maybe we can figure something out. Or anyone else, if you have any real suggestions, I'm definitely ready to listen to you.

I think that's really all. It's a bit boring, but we have what we have. I just started playing golf about 12 months ago, so I'm terrible at it, but it's so addictive. I have such an addictive personality.

Crypto is one thing, and video games are another. I was really good at StarCraft 2 and Dota 2. I just get stuck and want to do only that, so my goal is to become a 0-handicap player in the next couple of years.

Thread Guy

Solana Doomer, this is actually incredible. Hey, do you have something to advertise, well, I don't know, a newsletter or, damn it, I don't know.

Doomer

No, I don't, I don't, I don't advertise, I don't, I don't, I don't have anything to advertise except Awaken Tax. Use Awaken Tax. This is my opinion, and maybe it's biased, but it's the best tax product. I started working with them because I was already using their product, as it was much better. So if you have any tax issues, contact them. They are simply incredible. Other than that, I have nothing to advertise except that, you know, everything comes back. Like, be kind to people, and, you know, the universe will be kind to you.

Thread Guy

Oh, I have two more quick questions. First: do you really hate Solana?

Doomer

No, it's pretty funny. My original nickname was Boomer, but there was a period in Discord chats after Trump peaked when I was saying the market had peaked and we were going to go down forever, so people started calling me Doomer. I kept Doomer from then on.

Thread Guy

And what's the story with Tim Walz?

Doomer

I don't know. I just thought it was a funny picture. A buddy of mine from Minnesota kept talking about Tim Walz, and I saw this picture and thought it was funny. To stay on topic, I just posted it and said, “Well, let's go.”

Thread Guy

You're a cool dude. Thank you again for coming. It was nice to meet you. And I don't know—$50 million in profit. Let's repeat that. Let's see what we can do.

Doomer

That's the goal.

Thread Guy

Okay, brother. I wish you all the best. Thank you again. Goodbye.

I mean, what was that even about? All of this together—what was that? It was madness. It was unreal. How can you even find such a person?

I traded everything from my phone. I didn't use technical analysis or indicators. I just trade on impulse. My balls are bigger than yours, and I'm ready to move my capital up and down if necessary. Plus $25 million. It was incredible.
